Registering Kayak for Canada?

Postby wtp1980 » Sun Feb 28, 2016 11:30 am

What is the process for kayaking across the international line? From a motored boat we called in and gave our boat description and MC numbers. How does it work with a kayak? Do you have to register it and get MC numbers? Can you get MC numbers for a non motorized craft?

Just kayaking across the line or landing on the other shore? Are you an American traveling into Canadian water or a Canadian traveling into American water? If you are a Canadian and just travelling into American water to fish, all you need is an American license UNLESS you are launching from Canadian soil and landing on US soil. Then you would need a passport. Not sure who you would notify in either case though.

Sorry... I should have clarified that. American crossing into Canadian waters. Not touching shore, just fishing. I have all the licenses I need.

I am pretty sure you need a passport or enhanced license and have to call Canadian customs when crossing, regardless of whether you land or anchor.

Ironically when we cross into US water we only have to call if we anchor or go on shore.

I often fish in Canadian waters of lake erie. I call 1-888-226-7277 give them the description of the kayak, where you launched from. who is with you and if you plan on going on land anywhere. It's really simple just be polite and they will help you anyway they can.

Do you need a Canadian fishing license if crossing over into Canadian waters? Also are the different from Michigan waters?
