Are there American made kayaks?

Postby ThrillsOnGills » Wed Jan 27, 2016 8:14 am

I've been researching new kayaks and companies and I have only seen Jackson with the American made stamp on their products. Are there more out there? I've seen a few companies that have their molds done overseas and finish them up here. My ideas for a new kayaks are ever changing, but if its realistic I'd like to buy American.

I believe Wilderness Systems, Ocean Kayak, and Old Town are also made in the US
Couldn't say if they are 100% US or not though

Wilderness Systems are 100% made in South Carolina...I've seen the process from pellets to loaded on the delivery truck.

I also know that Feel Free kayaks are made in SE Asia and come over on a boat.

Beyond that, I cannot speak to where they are made and/or assembled.

Thanks for the info. I'm glad there are so many brands that are made here. If anyone sees any more brands that haven't been mentioned, feel free.

They sure are. The Ultimate 14.5 tandem, has been my go to fishing kayak since they came on the market. This is my 30th season of kayak angling, and over those years, I have tried many styles of kayaks, and for me, the Ultimate 14.5 is the best all around pleasure/fishing/hunting kayak on the market. For me it is perfect, but I know it is not for everyone.

Hello my second post:

Prior to me purchasing my first Kayak i got a chance to be on the west coast near Oceanside, and remembered the Hobie company was Headquartered there...

I did see the building from the outside, but because it was closed on the July 4th holiday, i couldn't knock on the door...but it appears it could be a manufacturing site..

.large building behind Hobie offices

Too bad i couldn't do a tour! :D
